Practice Quarter-Hour Times on an Analog Clock
Level 3 of 5 — 1st–2nd Grade
Quarter-hour positions are the four cardinal points of a clock. The minute hand lands on 12 (on the hour), 3 (quarter past), 6 (half past), or 9 (quarter to the next hour). Mastering these four positions gives you a solid framework for reading any time.
Skills You Will Practice
- ✓Reading "quarter past" (minute hand at 3)
- ✓Reading "quarter to" (minute hand at 9)
- ✓Distinguishing all four quarter positions
- ✓Using the language: o'clock, quarter past, half past, quarter to
How This Drill Works
Clocks in this drill show only :00, :15, :30, and :45 minutes. After nailing the half-hour drill, you add :15 ("quarter past") and :45 ("quarter to"). Pay close attention to whether the minute hand is at the 3 or the 9.
